Does Jesus Judge Us?

Now that is a good question.  Does Jesus judge you?  Here is the answer from Revelation 3:

‘I know your works. You have the reputation of being alive, but you are dead.  2Wake up, and strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your works complete in the sight of my God.  Remember, then, what you received and heard. Keep it, and repent. If you will not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come against you

Some people love to say that this is allegory, but I don't.  I think Jesus does evaluate us, and at times I don't think He is happy with our performance.  Salvation is a "by faith only" proposition, so you can not get to heaven if you don't believe by faith in the atoning work of Jesus Christ.  But following our salvation, we are called by God to do something here on earth for God.  That is called "works" and even though "works" can't save you, they are important for your benefit before God.  In Revelation 22:12 Jesus said this;

12“Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay everyone for what he has done."

Let's face it judgment is a part of life, even in the church. We are constantly reevaluating our systems and the people running those systems.  The Apostle Paul told us to evaluate (judge) the people in the church.

1 Corinthians 5:12-13

12For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge?  13God judges those outside. “Purge the evil person from among you.

This is an important exercise in order to keep evil out from the ranks of belivers in the church.  That means we have to continually evaluate the doctrines preached, and methods used within the structure of the church.

Judgment gets a bad rap in the church, and it shouldn't. As we have seen contnually in the two chapters of Revelation 2 and 3, Jesus evaluated His Church.  What do you think He would say if He were to evaluate the church today?

Here's a few suggestions:

  1. You're the head and I am the tail in the church
  2. Your leaders look more like entertainers than they do my priests
  3. You spend money on the wrong things
  4. Your ministries have become idols
  5. You have invented visions about Me
  6. You love things I hate
  7. You take but do not give
  8. Your source for insights does not come from Me
  9. You have partnerships with darkness
  10. You define me by your traditions

It's a nice list right?   Okay, it's a bit brutal, but let's face it, Jesus was honest and to the point when we was addressing those churches in Revelation.

Jesus wants us to be in the Spirit, in His Word, and doing His Great Commission.  It is that simple, and that clear.  The church has complicated it's mission, over extended it's authority, created a new gospel, and has forgotten the old. (I could go on, but I am showing mercy)

Jesus is coming to be our judge, and His criteria will be, "have you followed me according to my Word?"

He will judge us, even if you don't think Jesus does judgment!!

 Keeping it honest and truthful.....K

One other criteria Jesus will assess will be how did we treat Israel and the Jews. Here is a brief reminder it's important to reach the Jewish people for Christ.
