What Are We Not Hearing Today?

I remember a survey I did a few years ago with a radio audience I had at the time.  I asked people to go on line and let me know what they were not hearing from their pulpits.  Here were the top three:

1. Judgement of God and Hell

2. Women in the Ministry

3. Abortion and Homosexual sins (were tied for third)

Now, these are the kind of topics that could get you in trouble in a hurry.  You know that everyone in the congregation wants to know how the love of God can impact their lives, and how Gods Word can be used to bring in more prosperity.  Then of course you have women. What do you do with women?  Well, let's give them some advisory role, and let it go at that.  However, if any male leader in the church was honest he would poll women in his church to see if the quality of spiritual life is as open and fair to women as it is for men. Most women I have talked to (who will be honest with me) say that they are not listened to, and feel very second class in the church. Well, no wonder the pulpits are silent about this issue.  Oh and then last but not least we have the abortion, homosexual sin issue. Who wants to guilt the 1/3 of women sitting in the congregation who have had abortions, but are suffering in silence.  Then you have the gays, who will picket the church if you say homosexuality is a sin. Everyone knows that homosexuals are lying in wait to accuse anyone of hate speech.

Well, as you can see, who in their right mind would preach on these three issues, that's why no one is hearing about them from their local pulpits.  All I can say is, preachers are cowards, and backslidden. Why do I say that?

One Elder in a mega church in my town told me, that his preacher wouldn't touch these issues because he is concerned that people coming to his church would get offended and not seek salvation.  Nice try pastor.  You had better have altar calls every week where people can come to know the Lord.  However, as you can imagine, thats not happening either. This pastors congregation is well to do, and offending them with altar calls, and preaching that tells the truth most likely would cost the church some income.

When I got saved from a life of alcohol, drugs, and immoral lifestyle, I was thankful for preachers who told me the truth. Salvation is more than just getting your ticket for heaven, it also should teach you how to live in a hostile world.  If you are never told what the Bible teaches about the hard issues we face as a society, then of what value will you be in standing up against them?  The Church needs to start praying for their pastors to be filled with more than their education, because they're ruining the church.  I am too hard on pastors?  No, I am not hard enough! Personally am tired of gutless pulpits that steer people away from any controversial issues because they are afraid of what truth might do to their sanitized domain.

Keeping it honest and truthful.....K

You may not be a pastor, but you are a person of influence....Dr John Piper has a two minute word just for you.
