The Buzz Words

Everyone has buzz words, they are the identifiers of a concept, a product, a service, or a theology.  We are bombarded with these little word creatures.  Okay, so what are the buzz words in Christianity?

Unity

Love

Being Lead

Prayer

Worship

The Word

I am sure you can come up with a dozen or more of these buzz words we all use to identify where we are at in our spiritual journey.  Are these buzz words bad, no, but they can be very shallow and can misrepresent the very concept you are tying to identify with a word.

For example, lets take prayer.  We all use prayer like its some holy ordeal to invoke God's blessing. But if the person praying isn't in keeping with the known Word of God, then how can prayer be a blessing?

Proverbs 28:9 says,

If one turns away his ear from hearing the law,
even his prayer is an abomination.

Okay, point taken right?  What about worship?  Is worship a magical practice that God gets excited about? Amos 5 tells us that God is not honored with a token form of worship.

21“I hate, I despise your feasts,
and I take no delight in your solemn assemblies.

22Even though you offer me your burnt offerings and grain offerings,
I will not accept them;
and the peace offerings of your fattened animals,
I will not look upon them.

23Take away from me the noise of your songs;
to the melody of your harps I will not listen.

24But let justice roll down like waters,
and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.

So, what is God saying in these verses?  Is the practice of prayer or worship worth much before God if the hearts of the people aren't in right with Him?  Too much of what we do in the church is built around buzz words, they sound good, may even look good, but have no substance with God.

Personally, I don't want a buzz word Christianity. I don't want to hear another gooy-gushy worship song, or another prayer for direction, and anointing. Have you analyzed some of Christian music, and listened to how pathetic some of it can be?  Have you listened to some of your own prayers, and how often they are filled with victimology?  How many songs today sing about the cross, the power of the blood, or the blessed hope of His Return? You have to go back to the hymns of the church for those themes. What about prayers for making warriors, for an uncompromising army of truth tellers who will not care who gets offended in the course of telling the truth.  What about unity?  Or God is all about love?  Well, unity is only as good as what you unify around, and love has a flip side to it, and it's called justice. God's unity is found in Him and in the keeping of His Word, and God's love is his justice found in both his Grace and His judgment.

Too straight forward for you? Fine, but sooner or later you will have to land on the reality that God is not pleased with buzzing Christians. Take a stand, say something meaningful, start repenting more, pray for the power to create a new reformation of warriors, start living in the promises God has given to you, and give your whole life to God in every aspect of it, including your dishonesty of using meaningless buzz words. .....buzz, buzz, buzz.....

Keeping it honest and truthful....K

Greg Laurie has a great word on how "sin" changes everything.
