The System
Dennis Prager is a radio commentator heard on the Salem Network across the country. Dennis is a conservatiive Jew whose moto is: "Clarity is Everything." I like that, and the more I think about it, I really like it. Think about all the times you have gotten into an issue where people misread your statements or misunderstood your words, and it turned out badly. There was no clarity in what you meant, or in what you were trying to communicate. (marriage is a good testing ground for this)
However, all of us use a foundational system for building our worldview, to clarify what we stand for or believe in. Liberals have their set of values based upon how they see the world. They want liberty for all people, at all costs. Conservatives want moral values with less government control. Each believes in their system, so much so that it grid locks our government systems concerning budgets and debt spending. Whose right? You can probably fine a shed of truth in any opinion, or worldview, but that's not the point. The point is how do you clarify the basis for your belief system? If you are a person with good ideas, conversative or liberal, but you have ignored God and His Word as any foundational reference, then I think your worldview is flawed. But that's where the dividing line is drawn isn't it? God or no God. If there is no God, as some believe, then the very best and brightest minds will do, that's all your have, period. If there is a God, then what God do you choose? The God of the Muslim world, or the god of Hinduism where you have a million choices or more, and then you have a garden variety of Christian gods, all presenting them as if they have the right doctrine of truth.
So you can see why there are so many systems upon which people base their belief structures and why it will become more difficult for the Church to teach that there is only one way. Our world will not allow the John 14:6 passage to clarity their understanding of God. In fact, Christians won't allow it either. Many believers get offended by that passage and come up with every excuse in the book for why it can't be true. My opinion, "don't call yourself a Christian it you can't accept the clarity of John 14:6" Call yourself a universalist who can accept everyone's point of view about God, and that each system of belief is as good as the next. (good luck when you get to the million or so gods of Hinduism, they all have to be included in this)
Is there one God and one way? Or are they many gods and many ways? For me as a follower of Jesus Christ, there is only one truth and one God, period. The evidence for me is the Bible and Israel, both have been supported by God through the centuries. First, God has been faithful to the promises to the Jews, and secondly the evidence of the accuracy of the Bible in predicting future events. The Bible is a story of God and His promises to His people the Jews. From those promises has come a savior to the world, and His death upon the cross is the culmination of the promises made to Abraham centuries before His crucifixion. You can argue against Jesus being the only way of salvation, but in the end, it doesn't change the fact, that He is the way, the truth and the life. It this system that works this life, and assures us of the life to come. Let's just make it clear, it's your choice.
Keeping it honest and truthful...K
John 14:66 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. |
