Sticking our heads in the sand

Jeremiah 6:14

They offer superficial treatments for my people's mortal wound. They give assurances of peace when there is no peace.

Eze 13:10

"This will happen because these evil prophets deceive my people by saying, 'All is peaceful' when there is no peace at all! It's as if the people have built a flimsy wall, and these prophets are trying to reinforce it by covering it with whitewash!

Sunday night a lone gunman fired shots at a concert crowd in Las Vegas where more than 59 people died and over 515 were wounded. The investigation isn’t complete, so there is no definitive motive why this man decided to open fire on this crowd.  The motive, regardless of what they find out, is purely evil. I was talking with a ministry leader this morning and we were wondering if this man was demon possessed? It occurred to both of us that this kind of description is never used when defining a tragedy like this. It is never used in most churches today, yet the devil and all the fallen angels (demons) still exist; nothing has changed in the spiritual world that would indicate that they are no longer a threat to human life. A side note - there will never be peace on earth until the devil and his demons are bound, which will not happen until Jesus Christ returns to earth to rule and reign in Jerusalem for 1000 years. Then the Earth will know true peace and safety.

The devil has been waging war against Israel and the Church for thousands of years, and he will never cease his destruction until Christ binds him.

Revelation 12:17  “So the dragon became enraged at the woman and went off to wage war with the remaining ones of her offspring, who observe the commandments of God and have the work of bearing witness concerning Jesus.

It is evil that does the kind of things that happened Sunday night in Las Vegas and we need to start calling it what it is and stopping sticking our heads in the sand about it. We have become so secular in our thinking, our beliefs, and our lifestyles, that we have forgotten that what we see in this world is not what is permanent, and the real players in this world are those we cannot see.

We see signs on Earth such as earthquakes and signs in the heavens, but we also see signs in the behavior of humans. People are killing other people as if it were a badge of honor to destroy as many people as possible. Evil days are increasing and it is a sign of the times in which we live. You cannot do anything about it, and as sad as that is to say, how can you? You can take all the guns and explosives away from public purchase, and then we get it all from the black market. So what have we accomplished? Nothing! The problem is evil in the hearts of people that will perpetrate whatever they can to do harm to other people. It is how evil works; evil wants to say to God and His Church, you can’t stop us and we will only increase our evil intent whenever and however we can. Evil is having a heyday in producing as much hate and confusion as possible. Everywhere we look – the NFL controversy, Europe’s internal war with Islam, Trump, Intrafa, Las Vegas shootings - the list grows every day.

But let’s be clear about something: it is not Trump’s fault just as it was not Obama’s fault before him. Americans love to find fault in the ‘whys’ and our social networks and media invent things to point fingers at:

  1. Russians meddling with elections
  2. Global warming hoax
  3. Guns create evil
  4. Trump is a racist
  5. Obama is the antichrist

None of this is the cause of our problems. The cause of our problems is that we are spiritually bankrupt; our souls are empty of God and our direction is one of utter confusion. This is why we invent things to blame, yet the funny thing is we don’t know it is happening to us. Americans have opted for their sports, money, fame, culture, pleasure and politics over the God of the Bible. This is the perfect environment for evil to thrive. Confusion, emptiness, and a spiritually bankrupt society make for a perfect storm. In the next few days and weeks we will hear a barrage of junk news telling us all about the event. I call it junk news because they will never get to the reason all of this is happening to our cities and our country. Not one person will spend time giving you any detail on the real story behind this mayhem and that just adds insult to this tragic event in Las Vegas. It is tragic because it will not stop. I don’t care if the reality of this scares you, because until America gets right with God and start seeing things as they really are, more of our families, friends, and co-workers will suffer the consequences of evil taking prisoners in this good vs. evil war.

Your hope and safety is in your faith in Jesus Christ. Live for Him, and your heart will find the real peace you need to face the day in which we live.
