Self-Marriage or Sologamy

Self-marriage or sologamy is marriage by a person to oneself. It is known as a commitment that values self-love and self-compassion. Supporters of the practice argue that it leads to a happier life

As I have said a thousand times, we are such a confused society that anything goes. We continue to see and hear things that push the limits back on normal human behavior and everything gets twisted.

Proverbs 29:18 “When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild. But whoever obeys the law is joyful.

This is the reason why the society is so twisted, when you throw off God’s laws and principles, everything will be bizarre. Pushing the limits is in our sinful nature and the evil one has created a system that feeds upon that nature.

Movies and TV progressively are getting more violent and provocative, influencing society to think differently. Language gets coarser from generation to generation, and it is normal to use foul language in everyday life. Human relationships also become twisted in practice because there are no boundaries or standards. Remove the boundaries and you have no restraints to keep you from drifting away from God.

I don’t like to assign blame on this drifting, but I share Charles Finney’s thoughts on this:

“Brethren, our preaching will bear its legitimate fruits. If immorality prevails in the land, the fault is ours in a great degree. If there is a decay of conscience, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the public press lacks moral discrimination, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the church is degenerate and worldly, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the world loses its interest in religion, the pulpit is responsible for it. If Satan rules in our halls of legislation, the pulpit is responsible for it. If our politics become so corrupt that the very foundations of our government are ready to fall away, the pulpit is responsible for it. Let us not ignore this fact, my dear brethren; but let us lay it to heart, and be thoroughly awake to our responsibility in respect to the morals of this nation.

He sounds harsh about the pulpits, yet is it true? Have the churches allowed a message of leniency as it pertains to morals?  Have we condoned immorality by not addressing it?

 Proverbs 29:27

An unjust man is an abomination to the righteous, but one whose way is straight is
an abomination to the wicked.

Have we been an abomination to the wicked by addressing what is right and what is wrong in society? And by not addressing the issues of the day, are we somewhat responsible for good being called evil, and evil being called good?

Isaiah 5:20

Woe to those who call evil good and good evil,
who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness,
who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.”

If we are not teaching right from wrong from our pulpits and identifying how sin is slowly becoming acceptable in all walks of life, do we not need the help of the Holy Spirit even more?

John 16: 8-11 And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and
righteousness and judgment:  concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer;  concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.

I have been writing more lately about the Holy Spirit because I sense that we need to re-awaken how we interact with Him in our personal lives and how we relate to others in fellowship. I believe that we will face more struggles in our lives simply because the times in which we live have become more unmanageable. What we may face in the future could result in more hostility to what we believe, and as a result it will force us to depend more on the power of the Holy Spirit to survive. Every time a new diversion from the truth makes its way into society, we lose a bit more of God’s influence in our world. My hope is that we will take more time to think critically about the future and build our faith in Christ now while we have time.

Keeping it honest and truthful….K
