When Civility is Gone

We have all heard the sound bytes from Maxine Waters, Eric Holder, Hillary Clinton and others who say they can’t be civil to Republicans until they are back in power in Washington. This could be a great definition of what bullying is from our so-called political leaders in Washington. Talk about swamp talk.

I just can’t believe this political party can be so incomprehensible when it comes to working with others to help govern this great nation of ours. We have become a nation of people who love our politics more than we love God. Behavior matters, and when we our parties get so entrenched in winning at all costs by stooping to the lowest levels of bullying, this should be a sign to all of us who notto vote for.

A relative gave me a Trump “Fake News” button that when pushed says a variety of statements about “Fake News.”  I have it outside of my studio and when I pass it I push it. My dog gets irritated by hearing it all day long that she looks at me with disgust.

Now, I thought it was just the voice of Trump that irritated her, but then I got to thinking there is more to the story.

I realized that my dog is a democrat. Here is why.

  • She gets free food, no contribution on her part.
  • She gets free walks several times a day, with a sponsor from our family who agrees to walk her.
  • She gets that same sponsor to pick up her droppings and bag them for disposal. She takes that for granted and expects it to happen, but otherwise she would just leave it where it dropped without a second thought.
  • She sleeps all day, no requirement for meaningful commitment to anything.
  • She barks at everyone - no matter if they are just passing by our house or knocking at our door. In fact she barks at the family for no reason.
  • She thinks she is more important than other dogs in the neighborhood and plays the elitist card that life is all about her needs. She is the Alpha dog.
  • She has a nice demeanor when she is after a treat that she figures is owed to her.
  • She is stubborn and always expects that we place her before everything else in our lives.
  • She sheds all over our house without any concern of how it affects others.

So no wonder the Trump “Fake News” button is so disturbing to her.

The bottom line is that we have to learn to deal with opposition. When you don’t have a worldview based upon God, your opposition will force you to resort to whatever tactics are necessary to get your way. The reputation of how the Democrats behave has become the poster child for bad behavior.

However, Christians know that at the end of each day, God is still in control. And because He is in control we have a different view of behavior. Nothing takes God out of the driver’s seat, and that is why I can say with confidence, as bad as behavior gets, GOD IS STILL IN CONTROL. Bad behavior is a sign to everyone who believes in God that this is what mankind is like without God’s help. This is one of the reasons God gave us the Bible to assure us that He does not intend to leave this world to its own devices. God provides us a way out, and that exit is through Him.

God knows when the end will come, and He has His timeline well under control. Our job is to trust Him, even if we get thrown into the lions den of BAD BEHAVIOR, He is still in control just as HE was for those three Hebrew boys in Daniel. God’s control is still in effect no matter the circumstances, and His protection is complete.

So, stand for truth, be aware of the day in which we live, and be Christ-like in how we deal with each other, because everything is under God’s watchful eye. Don’t fear and don’t be afraid because the Bible tells us that we win because He is in complete control. So let’s be civil to each other and do as the Apostle Peter suggests, let’s be kind to each other, including our Democratic dogs.

The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray.Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. 10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. 11 If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.     -1 Peter 4:7-11

Keeping it honest and truthful…K
