Our Identity Crisis

Recently the Family Research Council published two articles that caught my attention.  This highlighted an experience I had recently when I signed in at a local neighborhood meeting where you had to identify your gender from a list of gender terms. I rolled my eyes and refused to participate in any kind of nonsense. Those two articles identified below had to do with a new movie “Boy Erased” and “Planned Parenthood’s new propaganda partner”, the LGBTQ community.

I have used the word propaganda because that is exactly what it is.

Propagandainformation, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view:

All of the gender identification does not help people find themselves it only drives them further away from the truth. Identity is never found in any other source other than in how God created us. An elephant doesn’t self-identify as a mouse, nor does a chicken identify as a hawk. God’s order from the very beginning was male and female and there were no other choices or other categories to choose from.

He created them male and female and blessed them. And he named them "Mankind" when they were created.    –Genesis 5:2

Confusion: lack of understanding; uncertainty, it is the state of being bewildered or unclear in one's mind about something:

This process of self-identifying what sex or classification you are is a clear agenda of hatred. That hatred has been masked as love and tolerance, but when you dig deep enough you find that at the core of all the confusion there is a hatred for God. Jesus addressed this hatred in John 15:18-22

“If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you.

Hatred for God was the first sin in heaven. I had always thought it was the pride of Satan that drove him to rebel against God, but I am convinced that it was hate that gave him the courage to think he could compete with God and be like Him. Hatred, when properly defined, is more corrupt than just not liking someone. Hatred at its core is murder in your heart and you want to eliminate or destroy the object of your hate.

1 John 3:15 Anyone who hates another brother or sister is really a murderer at heart. And you know that murderers don't have eternal life within them.

This kind of hatred is what is displayed in the gender identification crisis we see today. God’s order in creation is what is in question and rebellion against Him and His creation is what is at stake. The goal for perversion is to become normal; in fact, the word ‘perversion’ is rarely used to describe anything abnormal today, because nothing is abnormal. I believe that humans are influenced by the hatred for God in our world to change society’s acceptance of what was once taboo.

Of course it is easy for those of us in the Christian community to discern our times and identify the truth behind this gender confusion. Yet it is also our responsibility to have compassion and a desire to set the captives free by being faithful to the truth of God’s Word. We should not disengage from our culture - we need to learn to engage it, but not as people who accept it, but as people who will confront it. As Ephesians 4:15 tells us to do:

“Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church.”

The prophet Jeremiah in his day called the customs of the nations delusion, and that is still true today.

-Jeremiah 10:3 For the customs of the peoples are delusion;

-Jeremiah 10:8 But they are altogether stupid and foolish,in their discipline of delusion their idol is wood!

Delusion: a belief or impression that is firmly maintained despite being contradicted by what is generally accepted as reality or rational argument, typically a symptom of mental disorder:

Jeremiah was addressing idols and the delusion that idols had power or divine influence. Self-identifying has the same properties as an idol, and it is delusional to believe you can change your sexual identity by simply ‘declaring’ it.

As Christians we can love people who are confused and living in delusion, but we can never accept their condition as normal. In the same manner we love a drug addict, our love doesn’t tell them it is okay to remain taking drugs. Our love tells them there is a way out. The same is true for anyone who is caught up in this movement of gender identification.

For the Christian, love is always accompanied by truth and truth provides us with the action that is needed to change.

Our identity is found in the love of God and in the truth of God and both work together to change lives to get rid of the confusion and hatred that is fueling this movement of gender identification.

Keeping it honest and truthful….K
