Those Big Little Things

Thanksgiving to me has always been a day I think about how thankful I am for all the little things that make up my life. Of course I am thankful for my wife, my kids, and all the blessings of friends, clients, and neighbors. Yet, in the midst of all my blessings I am extremely grateful for the little things that are often overlooked when we give thanks at this time of the year.

I am reminded of the little things that we take for granted such as the garbage collectors who take away our trash every week. I have been in developing countries that do not have this service and the trash is thrown throughout the community.

How about the mail delivery person who is faithfully bringing you your mail, or how about the quickness of an Amazon order coming in just a few days?

There are always the appliances: a refrigerator, washing machine, and stove that make our lives easier instead of having to shop daily for food, wash clothes down at the river, or cook on an open flame. You forget about all these little big things that make our lives easier.

There are also the friendships that feed into our emotional needs of sharing life together, as well as the love that brings our families together at this holiday season. It is easy to forget these little big things that reward our lives on a daily basis.

There are people in our lives that are so important in our marketplace jobs that we couldn’t do our jobs without them. In my life there are editors, idea people, and people who actually pay me to work for them. All of these big little things are huge in the scheme of making life work every day of the year.

So this thanksgiving, thank all the people who sit down at the table with you for a meal, but also think about how thankful you are for the big little things in your life; they too should play a huge role in your thankful heart on this thanksgiving.

However, at the end of your long list of things and people you are thankful for, don’t forget to thank the Lord for all of it. He is the greatest blessing in a person’s life, and He is the one who is responsible for who you are and who you are becoming. He is our thanksgiving, and the greatest joy we can give back to Him is our thanks for everything.

Always thankful, and always honest and truthful…K
