The tips of the day are all about how to protect you against COVID-19. Protection will be the new mode of how life is lived moving forward. The one overriding tip is ‘avoidance’ or as it is now called, ‘social distancing.’ Handshaking will be a tradition we will probably drop altogether, and we will become more like the TV series ‘Monk’ where the main character was obsessed with germs and used hand wipes constantly. Protection from germs and viruses is one thing, but the more sinister enemy is Evil. Evil is as undetectable in our society as any Coronavirus, and if there was a test for it like there is for these deadly diseases, what would that test be?
How do you test for Evil?
The Bible gives you 10 Ways you can test for Evil. Are you ready for the test?
1. You shall have no other gods before Me.
2. You shall not make idols.
3. You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.
4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it Holy.
5. Honor your father and your mother.
6. You shall not murder.
7. You shall not commit adultery.
8. You shall not steal.
9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
10. You shall not covet.
Well there you have it, the test for Evil. How did you do?
This of course is only a test to see if you are in violation of what God Says is how we should live. However, if we live in violation of these Ten, then chances are we are practicing an Evil intent or activity.
God makes things simple. Ten things to remember to keep yourself protected against Evil. Then, of course, there is the simple Plan of Jesus. He kept all of these Ten, plus some, because He lived a sinless life. He was the only human being to do so. His Sacrifice was a simple remedy for human beings to Know God and complete the fulfillment of keeping Morally and Spiritually Right before God.
There it is:
1. Honor and keep the Ten Commandments.
2. Believe in Jesus and His Atonement on The Cross for our sins.
Evil hates these two remedies more than anything else. Evil has a vendetta against these two and will do everything to rob, steal, and destroy them in your life.
Okay. So, let me take it one step further in protecting yourself against Evil.
James 4:7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
We have a part to play in our protection; we have to submit to God our strength and our courage, and then He will help us to resist Evil, and that resistance begins by being aware of its presence and practice. You can’t resist something you are not aware of … that is the problem with our society. We are not aware of how Evil has taken root in how we think and how we act. Can I give you a few undetected ways this happens?
• Discrediting people through speech and action
• Dishonesty in relationships
• Dismissing Unforgiveness
• Denying our need to live in Repentance and making Restitution
• Depending on myself rather than on God
These are only a few ways we deceive ourselves into thinking and acting a part of where God wants us to go. These attitudes only strengthen in time, and change becomes more difficult.
In furthering our protection, the Book of Revelation tells us that we are to overcome Evil by three ways. (Revelation 12:10)
1. By the Blood of the Lamb
2. By the Word of our Testimony
3. By not fearing death in our struggle against it
This is our antidote for Evil in our world. This is the vaccine against Evil and there is none other. No matter where you look, Evil cannot be stopped by just good behavior, better practices, and stiffer laws. Evil will use all of these as a part of its disguise to gain access to your life. Only God and His Word is our success against Evil.
God’s Word is the only thing that Evil is subject to, and it is the only Source that if properly applied will defeat Evil and push back on its exercise in our world.
One final thought:
Someone has said: “Half of the results of a good intention are evil; half the results of an evil intention are good."
Don’t be fooled by appearances only. Watch, listen, and discern intentions. The results of a person’s life, or the intentions of a good thing will eventually be made known whether there are hidden agendas or motives.
Just because someone says they are Christian doesn’t mean they practice what the Scriptures Teach. Be wise as a serpent Jesus said:
Matthew 10:16 Look, I am sending you out as sheep among wolves. So be as shrewd as snakes and harmless as doves.
Evil is shrewd in how it approaches you, so let’s be one step ahead and be shrewd in knowing how to protect ourselves.
