Should Faith be Shared?

Charisma news recently reported the following: “Pope Francis told Christian high school students this weekend they should respect people of other faiths and not attempt to convert them to Christianity, insisting "we are not living in the times of the crusades."

It is not the first time we’ve heard religious leaders talk about not sharing Faith to other religions. Many Millennials feel that it is the same as violating a person rights to be approached by someone sharing the Truth of Christianity.

The Barna Group also reported recently that almost half—47 percent—of practicing Christian millennials told the research group that “it is wrong to share one’s personal beliefs with someone of a different faith in hope that they will one day share the same faith.”

Yet, at the heart of the Gospel is the admonition from Jesus Christ that we are to share our Faith and make Disciples:

Matthew 28 19Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.

The Gospel by design is meant to be shared. You have to ask yourself the question, why is there a fear on whether we share it or not? Everyone shares something about their lives with others. Hobbies, political views, accomplishments of children, building projects, goals and dreams, all because these things make up our lives. If our Faith is a significant element of who we are, why shouldn’t we share it? It would be no different for a Muslim who feels that Islam is a good practice - they would share it.

I do find it interesting that many religions do get shared in the Western world without anyone ever complaining. It is because much of it is covertly shared through things like Yoga, Transcendental Meditation, Kundalini, and a host of other practices that are marketed to people without their full knowledge of their origin. It doesn’t take much time to Google some of these practices and find out where they come from and what brings people back to them time and time again.

The point I am trying to make is that we are accepting practices that are not from God (and actually quite the opposite), yet no one seems to care. I have heard it a hundred times if I heard it once: “Yoga is just stretching and exercising, and there are no ramifications to just practicing the benefits that Yoga brings to a person.” If I were to say the same thing about a séance would you believe me if I were to simply say, “it’s harmless because we are not talking to spirits to join their club, we are only being entertained by their presence.”

Ouija boards are sold as entertainment in the toy section of many stores, yet because Ouija boards are associated with spirits or demons, it isn’t a game anyone should play, especially Christians.

Most of these practices, religions, and meditations are doorways for Evil to enter and influence. That is why good Spiritual counseling will tell you that opening your mind to Satanic things will eventually take you captive by its influence. So, what does all this have in sharing the Gospel? Everything. The Gospel is the one antidote in our world that will reveal the lies of the Evil One and give you the opportunity to get from the influence of Evil. When the Pope says don’t share your Faith with others, he is basically saying, “don’t care about the state of mind or Spiritual condition of others, just concern yourself with yourself, and let the others be influenced by whatever they wish to believe in. When Millennials suggest it is not polite to approach others with an introduction to your Faith, it is another way for Evil to say, “we have contained the truth.”

Without sharing the Gospel there is no difference between what the Apostle James says, “Faith without works is dead,” and not sharing the Gospel. Faith is dead without the Works to accompany it, and it is also dead when it is contained and not shared.

That is why it is important for us to push back on those who say it is impolite to share the Gospel with others. For many Christians, Faith is a struggle and the last thing we need to hear is that Faith is good for you but leave it at that!

I think Jesus knew that sharing your Faith does something within you. It is like an enzyme that activates and brings something inside us alive. Just to be clear, an enzyme is a substance produced by a living organism which acts as a catalyst to bring about a specific biochemical reaction.

As Jesus told us to “go into all the world and make Disciples,” we need to implement this catalyst that brings Faith alive. To do the opposite is to kill Faith and make it useless and dead.

Messages that we hear from religious people are not always good messages. That is why we analyze everything in order to Discern if it has God’s approval.
