The Era of Confusion

2 Timothy 2:7 Think over what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.

If there is one defining characteristic of the last days, it will be confusion. People will be confused because they don’t know how to process the information that is being fed to them through the various channels of the Internet and Social Media. Recently, Dennis Prager said that most people today do not process their thinking through moral or rational thinking … it is primarily how we feel about something.

One of the shortcomings of our day is that facts are meaningless … no matter what the facts may reveal, they cannot overcome the emotional perceptions about that issue. For example, Black Lives Matter appears to be about changing the systems that have perpetuated racism toward African Americans. This is the emotional perception about this organization, however, the facts reveal something different. Black Lives Matter has an agenda that supports all sexual orientations, which isn’t too far from the normal cultural agenda, but they also do not affirm the Western nuclear family. Here is their statement on this:

We disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement by supporting each other as extended families and villages that collectively care for one another, especially our children, to the degree that mothers, parents, and children are comfortable. ~Black Lives Matter

The general mood of those who want to fundamentally change America is that they want to rid society of the Judeo-Christian foundation which much of Western society is built upon. Society had laws that supported a moral code that required one man and one woman in defining marriage. The gay community challenged this moral code, and now sexual identity can be anything you prescribe it to be. I believe the Black Lives Matter statement leaves room for polygamy which will become another change in the way we define marriage in America. Will this happen? Of course it will … because once you open the door to same sex marriage, it’s just a matter of time before marriage will be defined between multiple partners, animals, and even avatars. Marriage will no longer be sacred as was prescribed by God; it will become a construct of culture that makes it into whatever you want it to be about.

The progressive nature of politics and the rejection of all moral codes will be the beginning of the end of America. Every civilization in history was destroyed by the immoral proponents that controlled the laws and practices of that civilization. It all starts with not honoring all life as being sacred. When human life becomes an expendable commodity and is no longer seen as belonging to God, people can be killed and removed without hesitation.

Abortion was the first sign that we were changing as a society. We made abortion about the rights of the woman, not about the rights of the unborn baby. From there it evolved into the rights of individuals to marry whomever they choose, and eventually we can even choose the gender we want to be on any given day of the week. This is the last days confusion about life.

Today, the lasts days confusion is about the safety from disease and the dismantling of racism. Culture is controlling people by fear. They are questioning the liberties and actions of past generations and determining they were racist. History is full of tensions between people groups and slaves were a part of every civilization. We have come to realize how enslaving anyone for profit is wrong, but it took the reality of history to teach that lesson. Wiping away that history doesn’t right a wrong … it teaches us a lesson of human value. If we learn from history, it is a benefit for the present, but if we ignore history we will repeat it. Destroying statues, removing flags, and trying to wipe away the painful reminders of our history is not the right way to change or remake America. All Americans own our history, and it’s not just about one or two people groups … we all share in the pain of our historical mistakes and conversely honor each other in those moments in history where we got it right.

Confusion is the result of not knowing the truth. Confusion is the antithesis of evil because evil does not want the truth to be known. The truth about the pandemic is mostly about fear, and the confusion surrounding the numbers of those tested and those who contacted COVID-19 keeps people fearful of reengaging their lives. The race issues are taking us down a path of tribalism, and destroying the idea of one nation of people called Americans. We are the most diverse nation on earth, yet, without the commitment to preserving this republic of ours, we will destroy it by our sectarian ideas for change.

2 Timothy 3:1-5 underlines the confusion in our day:

But mark this, there will be terrible times in the last days.

· People will be lovers of themselves

· Lovers of money

· Boastful

· Proud

· Abusive

· Disobedient to their parents

· Ungrateful

· Unholy

· Without love

· Unforgiving

· Slanderous

· Without self-control

· Brutal

· Not lovers of the good

· Treacherous

· Rash

· Conceited

· Lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God

· Having a form of godliness but denying its power

Have nothing to do with such people

This is why the last days will be an era of confusion. People will be so self-centered that it will create a state of mind that is confused about what is important. Look at that list! Tell me if that doesn’t identify what we face today in the society around us.

A good friend of mine and I were talking about the COVID-19 virus and it is clear that it is not clear how serious this threat could be. Watch this … it illustrates the dilemma about the virus and confusion.
