Being Ready

Luke 12:38-40 He may come in the middle of the night or just before dawn. But whenever he comes, he will reward the servants who are ready. Understand this: If a homeowner knew exactly when a burglar was coming, he would not permit his house to be broken into. You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.
Many times, in my Christian life, I have heard preachers/teachers talk about the coming of the Lord. Some clergy, in my early days, would come into the Church with charts, and grafts explaining when the coming of the Lord would be, and what season on the Jewish calendar it would happen. The problem with most of these prognosticators is that they are speculating with God’s Word. Jesus told us:
Matthew 24:36 “However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows.”
In the Book of Acts Chapter 1, the disciples kept asking Jesus about the restoration of Israel, and He simply replied, “It’s not for you to know.” Look at what Scripture says:
Acts 1:6-7 So when the apostles were with Jesus, they kept asking him, “Lord, has the time come for you to free Israel and restore our kingdom?”He replied, “The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know.”
What’s the Point?
Dealing with the prophecy of the return of Jesus Christ is not when … it is to always be ready. The Lord did not tell us when He would return, in fact, He said it wasn’t up to Him. Yet, we speculate about it in such a way that people really believe they know when His return will happen. Let’s just say, “No one knows the hour or the day, just be ready for when it happens.”
One of the criticisms of those who want the rapture to happen soon is, they forget that God is the one who decides, not our preferences. God says He wants none to perish, and if He delays for more to come to Him, why should we want anything different?
Conclusion
We don’t have to agree on this, but I don’t think it is wise to override what God wants to do because our theology demands something different from Him. Let’s trust that God is in control of when He returns, and until then, let’s be about His work of presenting the Gospel to more people. (This is what makes Him most happy.) Let’s please Him until He decides it’s time to come for us.
