When I attend a funeral, I am always made aware of death. It will happen to us all. Yet too often we dismiss it as something future so it is not an essential topic to dwell upon. Recently, I posted a Facebook post on this topic, and it is the basis for this blog.

Death is a big deal. No matter who you are, death is immanent and many never prepare for it. King Solomon said, “The day of your death is greater than the day of your birth.” Many say, “Nothing in the Bible has any relevance for me.” However, you may want to reconsider what the Bible says, especially about what happens after death. Following your death, God’s Records about your life are reviewed. Two Record Books are opened, one Book is history, what did I do with my life, and the second Book is about the future. This is the Book Jesus uses to verify He is your Savior. If your name appears, you get Heaven. If it doesn’t you get the Second Death which is separation forever from God. Death is a big deal.

The Bible and Death

I find it curious that when people don’t want anything to do with the Bible because it’s too religious, or whatever, yet it has the most detail account of what happens after death. To me, the only reliable source for what happens after death, would be one who comes back from the dead and is witnessed by those who are alive. Example? Jesus. The resurrection of Jesus proves there is life after death, and above all assumptions about what happens after death, Jesus is the best resource to the reality of life after death. So, I have begun to tell people that even if you are suspicious of the Bible and its instructions on how to live this life, then at least read it to know what happens after death. This will give you a different perspective.

The Bible

The Bible is a history lesson to inform us on how things began. It is also a guide on how to live with others and treat them with honor and respect. Lastly, it has insight into the future of what we will face as humans on earth, and what we will face following our death. Again, to me, this is the most important information a person receives in life … it is the top of the list of importance.  So, if you are not settled as far as your destiny following death, take time to read the Bible for the content on life after death. (Google it,  there is a great list of where to begin.)

This is the basis for the eternal benefits of believing in Jesus:

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
